          WALLACE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SELMA SET TO SOAR WITH AVIATION DAY

SELMA, AL— 03/26/2024 Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS), in partnership with Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority, is thrilled to announce its upcoming Aviation Day event, scheduled for May 2, 2024. This initiative is a testament to WCCS's unwavering commitment to providing educational opportunities and fostering career pathways in aviation, particularly among underprivileged students
in our community.

Aviation Day at WCCS is more than just an event; it is a platform designed to inspire, educate, and empower young individuals, encouraging them to pursue exciting careers in the dynamic aviation field. Focusing on underprivileged students, this event seeks to bridge educational gaps and create a pathway for success in the aviation industry.

The event promises an immersive experience for nearly 600 middle and high school students, offering them firsthand exposure to various aspects of aviation. Participants can expect a range of engaging activities, including flight simulations, aircraft displays, career workshops, and networking opportunities with seasoned industry professionals.

Key Highlights of Aviation Day at WCCS:

  • Opening Session: Students will be inspired by the encouraging words from our keynote speaker, Dr. Kyle Searcy, the Founder and President of Blue Star Aviation Team.
  • Aircraft Displays: Students can explore aircraft from ALEA, Black Pilots of America, and the military. There will also be drone and fire truck demonstrations.
  • Interactive workshops: Students will interact with aviation professionals during a career panel, air traffic control simulation, and the industry tour of Aeropro. Career booths will allow students to engage with college and military representatives. STEM booths will also be available to provide students with hands-on activities that demonstrate the science involved in aviation.

As a prelude to Aviation Day, Wallace Community College Selma proudly announces that two of its esteemed employees, Dr. Rolanda Horn and Johnny Moss, will participate in the Golden Knight Tandem Camp. The event, held from April 9th to April 11th, 2024, in Montgomery, AL, promises an adrenaline-pumping experience with tandem skydiving from an altitude of 12,500 feet.

Hosted by the US Army Montgomery Recruiting Battalion, the Golden Knight Tandem Camp is organized by the renowned United States Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights. Participants will have the unique opportunity to dive into the exhilarating world of skydiving alongside skilled and experienced members of the elite Golden Knights team.

Dr. James M. Mitchell, the President of Wallace Community College Selma, expressed his excitement about the upcoming event, stating that "Aviation Day at WCCS is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds. We believe that education can transform lives, and this event is another step towards a brighter future for aspiring aviators in our community." James M. Corrigan, the Executive Director of Craig Airport & Industrial Authority, also expressed his pride in partnering with WCCS to host this event.
